CBD Dosage for Dogs and Cats: Chart by Weight (mg and ml)
Quick answer: most dogs do well on one full dropper (1 ml) a day of the Penelope’s Bloom oil strength matched to their weight, and most cats on half to one full dropper of our 150 mg cat oil. Start with half that amount for the first week, then build up. The charts below show exactly how much to give, in ml and in mg.
Every Penelope’s Bloom oil comes in a 30 ml bottle with a 1 ml dropper, so one bottle is about a month of daily servings. The bottle strength (250 mg, 500 mg and so on) is the total CBD in the whole bottle, not in each serving.

Our CBD Oil for Cats is a gentler 150 mg strength in a 30 ml bottle, about 5 mg of CBD per full dropper, with a salmon flavor most cats accept easily.

Start low, then adjust
- Week one: give the “first week” amount from the chart once a day, ideally at the same time each day.
- Week two: move up to the “after week one” amount if your pet is doing well.
- Give it time: a daily routine for about 30 days, one bottle, is the fairest test. Some pet parents notice a change within days, others take longer.
- Adjust in small steps: change the amount by about a quarter dropper at a time, and wait a few days between changes.
- If your pet seems sleepy or has a loose stool, go back to the last amount that suited them.
Daily use versus as-needed
For everyday calm or for keeping an older dog moving comfortably, daily use works best, because it keeps a steady routine. For known stressful moments, like fireworks, a car ride or a vet visit, give the daily amount 30 to 60 minutes beforehand. How to give CBD oil
- Straight from the dropper: place the oil inside the cheek or under the tongue. This is the quickest way for it to absorb.
- On food or a treat: mix it into a small amount of wet food, or onto a treat your pet will finish right away.
- Measure with the dropper, not by counting drops. A full dropper is 1 ml, half a dropper about 0.5 ml.

Safety notes
- Talk to your vet first if your pet takes any medication, is pregnant or nursing, or has a health condition. CBD is processed by the liver and can change how some medicines work.
- Use pet products only. Human CBD products can contain THC levels or ingredients, such as xylitol, that are unsafe for pets. Our oils are hemp-derived and lab tested for THC.

How much CBD oil should I give my dog?
For most dogs, one full dropper (1 ml) a day of the strength matched to their weight: 250 mg for dogs up to 30 lb, 500 mg for 31 to 90 lb, 750 mg for 91 to 120 lb and 1000 mg over 120 lb. Small dogs under 20 lb usually need half a dropper or less. Start with half the amount for the first week.
Can I give my dog CBD oil every day?
Yes. Our oils are made for daily use, and a consistent daily routine is how most pet parents use them.
How long does CBD oil take to work?
Given by mouth, it is typically felt within 30 to 60 minutes. The fuller effect of a daily routine is best judged after a few weeks.
Can I give my cat my dog’s CBD oil?
We recommend the cat oil for cats. It is a lower strength, which makes small amounts easier to measure, and its salmon flavor is made for cats.
What if I give too much?
The most common signs of too much are drowsiness and loose stool. Skip a day, then restart at a lower amount. If you are worried, call your vet.
Which strength should I buy if my dog is between sizes?
Choose the strength for their current weight band. A stronger bottle simply means less oil per serving; for example, half a dropper of 500 mg is about the same CBD as a full dropper of 250 mg.
